BSD product role

Diffusion is a different acoustic tool than absorption.

BSD uses a rigid molded-fiberglass barrel form intended to distribute sound within a room. The source also offers optional 2-inch fiberglass on the back side.

The radius may run on the short or long dimension. That orientation, the surface location and the relationship to adjacent absorptive treatment should be established by the project’s acoustic design—not chosen from appearance alone.

The source does not publish a diffusion or scattering coefficient. Optional fiberglass on the back changes the described assembly, so request current evidence for the exact configuration.

Fire-test boundary

The published source describes an “ASTM-84 Tunnel Test” and reports flame spread below 25 / Class A or I. Request the current ASTM E84 report for the selected shell, finish and optional backing.

The current BSD page and PDF publish construction and nominal sizes but no diffusion coefficient, scattering coefficient, NRC value or frequency-specific performance table. Do not invent one.

Is BSD an absorber?

BSD is published as a barrel shaped diffuser. The optional 2-inch fiberglass behind the shell adds an absorptive component, but the current source does not publish a coefficient for that assembly.

Which direction should the barrel radius run?

The source allows the radius on the short or long dimension. The project’s acoustic design should determine orientation and placement.

Does QTS publish a diffusion coefficient?

Not on the current public page or PDF. Request current supporting evidence when a coefficient or frequency range is required.

How do wall and ceiling mounting differ?

Ceiling units are published with flat edges for lay-in grid placement. Wall units use slotted upper brackets and a lower angle with hook-and-loop attachment.

Can the nominal modules be rotated?

Do not assume orientation from dimensions alone. Confirm the radius direction, panel orientation and current mounting detail with QTS.
